~What day is it? And in what month?
This clock never seemed so alive
I can't keep up and I can't back down
I've been losing so much time~

Chris leaned on the wall and looked at her. She was sitting on a trunk with her head held down, her long hair blocking her face. They were backstage at yet another event, in yet another town they’ll never get to see, waiting to perform for yet another crowd of faces they’ll never remember.

He watched her closely. Her feet slowly moved back and forth and she slightly lifted her head up. She pushed her hair off her face and looked over at him. Chris smiled softly and she quickly moved her eyes away, like she was scared to make any form of contact with him.

He sighed and walked over.

“Hi.”

She looked up and whispered, “Hi.”

“How are you?”

She gave a shrug of her slender shoulders and said, “Ok, I guess. Why?”

Chris arched his brows and said, “No reason.”

She nodded and looked back down at her feet.

Chris licked his lips and said, “Would you like to have dinner with me tonight?”

Her head jerked back up quickly and she looked at him shocked. “Um, ok.”

Chris smiled. “Ok, well, meet me after the show and we’ll go eat.”

She nodded. “Ok.”

Chris smiled again and walked away.

~Cause it's you and me and all of the people with nothing to do
Nothing to lose
And it's you and me and all of the people
And I don't know why, I can't keep my eyes off of you~

He looked across the table at her and laughed. “Ya know, they make napkins for that.”

She looked at him confused. “Sorry?”

He got a napkin out of the dispenser and touched her face with it. “You have whipped cream on your cheek, here.”

“Oh,” she said and grinned.

Chris got it off and touched her face with the back of his fingers. “You’re so damned beautiful.”

She blushed bright red and smiled. “Thank you.”

Chris caressed down her jaw line and lowered his hand. “Are you ready to go?”

She nodded. “Yeah.”

~All of the things that I want to say just aren't coming out right
I'm tripping on words
You've got my head spinning
I don't know where to go from here~

Chris put the car in park and looked over at her sitting in the passenger seat of the convertible. “Baby?”

“Yeah?” she asked, smiling and looking up into the star-filled sky.

“The past six months have been amazing,” he said.

Her smiled faded and she looked over at him. “You’re breaking up with me.”

“No!” Chris said quickly.

She ignored him and started blubbering. “I knew this was too good to be true, that you were too good to be true. I always fall for the wrong guys…”

“Baby, please,” Chris said. “I love you.”

“Then why are you breaking up with me?” she cried.

“I’m not!” Chris said.

“You’re not?” she asked.

“No!” Chris said. “I would never break up with you! I love you and I want you to marry me!”

Her jaw dropped and she looked at him stunned. “What?”

Chris pulled a box out of his pocket and opened it. He held it out to her. “Will you marry me?”

She looked down at the ring and looked at him with tears sprinkling her eyes. She slowly nodded and the tears fell down her cheeks.

“Yes?” Chris asked.

“Yes!” she squealed and jumped on him, kissing him and crying. “I love you!”

“I love you too,” Chris said, laughing and kissed her.

She moved to where she was sitting on his lap and smiled. “Gimme.”

Chris laughed and put the ring on her finger. “I can’t believe you thought I was breaking up with you.”

She laughed, looking at the ring and then wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him.

~Cause it's you and me and all of the people with nothing to do
Nothing to prove
And it's you and me and all of the people
And I don't know why, I can't keep my eyes off of you~

Chris waited beside his best friend at the altar with goofy smile plastered on his face and pride swelling up in his chest as she walked down the aisle. His gorgeous, smiling bride looked straight at him as she came towards him. His stomach flipped with nerves and his face seemed to be on fire, but he was the happiest man on earth at that moment, waiting for her to come to him, to become his wife.

She stopped in her spot and Chris went to her. She hooked her arm in his and smiled at him brightly, mouthing, ‘I love you.’

Chris smiled and whispered, “I love you too.”

~There's something about you now
I can't quite figure out
Everything she does is beautiful
Everything she does is right~

Chris smiled, watching her fasten her heels. She swung her long hair away from her face and looked at him with a smile.

“You about ready to go, baby?”

“Yeah, I’m almost ready,” she said and walked to her vanity in their bedroom.

He watched her fiddle with makeup brushes and her hair with a smile. “You’re gorgeous.”

She smiled in the mirror at him and put another coat of gloss on her lips. “So where are we going?”

Chris shook his head with a grin, putting his hands in his tuxedo pants pockets. “Will you just please let me surprise you for our anniversary just this once? Considering last year’s was a disaster, this is the least you can do.”

“Every year has been a disaster when you’ve tried to surprise me for the past 3 years,” she said.

“It won’t be this time if you just let me do this,” Chris said.

“Ok, ok,” she said and got up. “I’m ready.”

“Then let’s go,” Chris said.

She walked over to him and hooked her arm in his. “Ok, let’s go.”

~Cause it's you and me and all of the people with nothing to do
Nothing to lose
And it's you and me and all of the people
And I don't know why, I can't keep my eyes off of you
And me and all of the people with nothing to do
Nothing to prove
And it's you and me and all of the people
And I don't know why, I can't keep my eyes off of you

“Daddy, will you push me on the swing?” Chris’s 4 year old, brown-haired, blue-eyed daughter asked as she walked over to him.

“Yes, princess,” Chris said with a smile and picked her up. He carried her over to the park swings and put her in it.

“Chris, please be careful,” his wife called out.

“Don’t worry, little mama,” Chris grinned and blew her a kiss.

She smiled and shook her head. “Not little any more.”

Chris smiled and slowly pushed Kirsty on the swing. He looked over at his wife, Rena and couldn’t help but smile. She lay back on the picnic blanket and rubbed her pregnant stomach. Gone were the catsuits and big hair, over done makeup and false fingernails. Gone were the crowds, the endless stream of roads, hotels and arenas. In their places was their daughter, their soon-to-be born son, him, and more love than anyone could ever hope for.

Chris thought back nearly 6 years before as he gently pushed his baby girl on the swing.

She sat there on the trunk with her face covered by her long hair and slowly kicked her feet, too afraid to make contact with anyone around her.

He inhaled a deep breath and looked over at Rena. She was watching them with a smile and rubbing her stomach.

“Baby,” Chris said.

“Yeah?” Rena asked.

“Will you have dinner with me?”

Rena laughed softly and said, “Um, ok.”

~What day is it?
And in what month?
This clock never seemed so alive

Chris got Kirsty off the swing and went back over to the blanket, carrying her in his arms. He sat down, leaned over and kissed his wife.

“I love you, baby.”

“I love you too,” she said softly and he kissed her again.
